Reckless Rollers Skate Camp is a progressive skating clinic aimed at getting beginner skaters ready for entry-level roller derby with a top ranked WFTDA league. Below are some important details to get you started
We are excited to announce the 2021 camp, running 6 weeks from October 16th through November 20th on Saturdays 10am-12pm.
During practices, BAD Trainers and Coaches will teach a structured agenda starting from the very beginner level skills and building up to the minimum skills required to join a competitive roller derby league. This camp works to prepare new skaters for league tryouts and participation in all league practices.
The Bay Area Derby Reckless Skate Camp will teach you the basics of the flat track roller derby environment. We’ll break down essential skills, such as proper derby stance, skating and stopping techniques, fluid movement on the track, laterals, jumping and weaving. During class, we will also focus on essential aspects of the game, including partner and pack work, blocking and hitting.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Open to women and gender expansive people who are at least 18 years old, and interested in learning how to play flat track roller derby under the WFTDA ruleset. Before you begin camp, you suggest you be able to:
- balance/roll on skates with no outside assistance
- stay active for up to 1.5 hours at a time
- exert yourself physically and mentally throughout the session
Attendance at every session is not required but highly encouraged, as each class builds upon the previous one. We are limiting the camp to 10 skaters in order to provide each participant with quality instruction and individual feedback. Register today to save your spot!
We encourage new skaters to join the Reckless Rollers Facebook group to connect with other skaters currently enrolled in the program, as well as to stay up to date about any potential skating opportunities.
